Cadet requirements

come and sail

In addition to the basic club membership requirements, the cadets committee require you to fill in a registration form (see below) which, as well as providing us will any relavent contact and medical information, defines the parameters by which we sail.

Qualifications Required

Although no formal qualifications are required to crew with a competent helm (i.e. one with at least RYA stage 2), we encourage all cadets to achieve RYA stage 2 as soon as they can.

To participate in single handed boats, cadets must hold the RYA Stage 2 qualification as a minimum.

Parent Commitment

not a creche

Please note that Cadets is not a crèche facility and at least one parent/guardian must remain at the club if their children are sailing. (Children do return off the water before the advertised finished and the Cadet Officer cannot accept responsibility for looking after them once they have returned to dry land).

All family members should aim to support the Cadets during the season. Parents are required to help in either the safety boats (appropriate RYA qualifications are required to drive safety boats (please ask)), the galley or on the beach.

Generally, parents are rostered for at least 2 duties in the galley, one to provide and organise cakes and food and the other to help in the galley, serving the starving cadets. This duty is not onerous and a rota is usually organised at the start of the year so that you can select dates that you are able to assist. It should be noted that this Cadet duty is in addition to the duty required by the CCSC Committee, but Cadets is run by volunteers so your help is most welcome.
